What is Internet of Things?

Internet of Things (IoT), the ability to make things smart and to connect them via communication technologies towards cloud based services that provide them with new capabilities. One focus of IoT is the connection of Industrial grade products, goods, machines, consumption materials, package, transport materials and supply chains elements.

What is an IoT Platform?

IoT platforms bundle many of the infrastructure components of an IoT system into a single unified Architecture. The services provided by such platforms fall into four main categories: 

1.Thing, edge computing, IoT data acquisition, sensor control, operations such as communications, device monitoring and management, security, and firmware updates; 
2.Gateway, edge computing, IoT data acquisition, data compression, Thing management, transformation and analysis of data, machine learning 
3.Cloud based Services aggregation of data from Things and Gateways, including event-driven logic, analytics and adapters to connect to enterprise systems, machine learning and management of Global Master Data
4.Cloud based Transformation, application programming, visualization, user interaction and user experience.

What is Edge Computing?

In contrast to cloud computing, edge computing refers to decentralized intelligence at the edge of the network. This local intelligence takes over control tasks with high real-time requirements, provides interfaces for communication with things and forwards the data to the cloud after pre-processing.


Why is Edge Computing important for IoT?

Internet of things is all about communication. What is a Gateway?

A gateway is a phyical device that serves as a control point between the cloud and the smart things. MYNXG gateways add local intelligence that takes over control tasks with high real-time requirements, provides interfaces for communication with things and forwards the data to the cloud after pre-processing.

Why is security so important for IoT?

Internet of things introduces a wide range of new security risks and challenges to the IoT devices themselves, their platforms and operating systems, their communications, and even the systems to which they're connected.

What is Transport Layer Security (TLS)?

Transport Layer Security (TLS) are cryptographic protocols designed to provide communications security over a computer network.

Why we use end-to-end encryption?

We want to protect your data during it's complete lifecycle because we understand the incredible value and risks that can occur due to unauthorized access to this data. That's why we encrypt all data at the point of creation ie. inside the sensor. From that moment our data only exists as encrypted data inside of the platform and only you decide who has access and when.

How does it work?
  • Our trusted Platform Modules (TPM) and the MYNXG Cipher Suite encrypt the data:
  • Our MYNXG data model contains secret data (data for own usage) and value data (for sharing with business partners).
  • We use additional encryption for the data transport with TLS 1.2 (best in class security)
  • MYNXG Vertical Integration: data are stored encrypted inside the cloud.
  • MYNXG IT Security: ISO 27001 certified products, which utilize Trusted Platform Module (TPM). TPM HW and SW that is certified by the BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik) and the MYNXG Cipher suite protects your data.
  • Sensor Integration: MYNXG sensors are TPM based, secure and pre-registered at the MYNXG system they can be integrated wireless or wired. MYNXG Public Key Infrastructure distributes and manages all sensors and gateways via Over the Air (OTA) services worldwide.
  • Horizontal Integration: MYNXG gateways offer best in class edge computing, security that is TPM based and the most advanced wired and wireless communication. Sensors can communicate via the gateways and move between gateways.
  • Modularization: each sensor can be reached and addressed Over the Air (OTA). Each sensor can move and is creating full freedom to operate. Each Thing is creating data reports and can store Data in the cloud, each Thing can create Transactions for the Blockchain.
  • Standard Compliance: For avoidance of doubt the protocols are standard compliant, data are transferred with JSON standard compliant formats and the encryption is TLS 1.2 fully standard compliant.

What is a blockchain?

Secure machine transactions via decentralized encryption technology in a chain of cryptologic concatenated blocks. Put simply, each block in the chain contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. This makes it by design resistant to data modification. 

MYNXG offers a blockchain solution that communicates 150times more efficiently and saves 300times more efficiently. MYNXG Blockchain is secured via TPM implemented inside the MYNXG Edge Gateways.

Why we use blockchain technology?

 
In our opinion a blockchain is the ideal transaction log for IoT devices in a business-to-business world.
 
The MYNXG Blockchain:
  • The MYNXG Blockchain is the first TPM security based Blockchain for IoT Things and IoT Gateways. The MYNXG Blockchain is a consortium blockchain optimized for IoT structures.
  • The POW is done by a cryptographic hash. The POA is a signature with a Thing specific PRIVATE_BLOCKCHAIN_KEY, securely stored inside the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
  • The MYNXG Cloud hosts the MYNXG Blockchain. Before any storage, each block is verified.
  • Verification is done via the PUBLIC_BLOCKCHAIN_CERTIFICATE of the Thing, the MYNXG Serial- and Product Number, only verified blocks are stored inside the MYNXG Blockchain. 
  • The verified blocks are recorded in a chain. The cryptographic hash hinders any tampering of data. The MYNXG Blockchain ensures prevention of retroactive modification of data.


What is a Smart Contract?

A smart contract is a computer protocol inside a blockchain intended to digitally facilitate, verify, or enforce the negotiation or performance of a contract. Smart contracts can be explained best as  "if-then” and "if-then-else” statements. Based on these rules, actions can be triggered, data transfers controlled, and processes can be automated. It is important to understand that there is no outside part or legal system that interprets the contract and the intent of the parties. The code is law and lives within the blockchain only.


Why is Over-the-Air critical?

Over-The-Air updates (or OTA) is critical to deploying new firmware to IoT devices. It makes your IoT solution scalable and ready for the future. Without it user intervention is required, either by the consumer or by a technician visiting the device in the field. Which in many cases becomes a undo-able job.  

What is an API?

The term API is an acronym, it stands for "Application Programming Interface”, and provides software functions. The API provides Services and return Data. The Term API is typical used for a formalized and frozen software Interface that is used by 3rd parties to program own Applications.

We like to use the metaphor of a restaurant. In a restaurant you order from a menu. All the dishes are listed along with a description. After you order, the kitchen prepares the menu as desired. As a guest you don't know exactly how they cook it, and you don't really need to know. An API works quite the same for developers. It lists a summary of operations that developers, can use, along with a clear description of what they do. How the operating system builds and presents a particular function is not important for the developer, they just need to know it is available for use in their application. 

MYNXG provides according to the above specification 2 API’s:

  • Service Layer API, that is providing the MYNXG Services to the MYNXG Transformation Layer that contain the IoT Applications.
  • Gateway API, that is providing the edge computing capabilities of the Gateway towards the Gateway APPs.

 

What is a digital twin?

Ii is the virtual replication of a Thing with its properties (functions) and its system status (state) realized in the cloud.

MyOmega Systems GmbH owns the MYNXG® brand name (registered trademark), system, design and all specifications with all code elements of the MYNXG platform, the industrial designs, HW and mechanics. All modifications and extensions to the products are designed by MyOmega Systems GmbH. Including all intellectual property rights and all intellectual rights on whatsoever element of the MYNXG platform.
